The Rank Group plc is the London-listed company behind Grosvenor Casinos, the biggest casino operator in Britain, along with the Mecca chain of bingo clubs and the Rank Interactive online business. From film reels to casino floors
The Rank Organisation built its reputation on Pinewood Studios, the Odeon cinema chain and Rank Xerox, the office-copier venture that for years earned it more than films did. Grosvenor Casinos, Britain’s largest casino operator
Grosvenor is the reason Rank matters to casino players. It runs around fifty venues, close to 45 per cent of the roughly 111 licensed casinos in Great Britain, which makes it the country’s largest land-based casino operator by a wide margin. Mecca and the Spanish arm
Mecca is Rank’s bingo business, with roughly forty-nine clubs across the UK and a matching online bingo and slots site. It earns less than Grosvenor but remains a long-standing high-street name. Outside the UK, Rank’s main overseas operation is Enracha in Spain, a chain of bingo-and-gaming venues plus a Spanish online site. The group describes the UK and Spain as its principal markets, and its July 2026 trading update named only Grosvenor, Mecca and Enracha, so the portfolio now sits tightly around those three.
How Rank’s gambling is licensed
Rank does not operate under a single licence. Its remote casino, bingo and betting run through Rank Interactive (Gibraltar) Limited, which holds UK Gambling Commission account number 57924. That account carries five remote licences, covering casino, bingo, gambling software and general betting on both real and virtual events, all active since 11 March 2022. The land-based side sits under separate non-remote entities such as Rank Leisure Limited, account 7701, whose gaming-machine licence has run since 1 January 2009, alongside per-venue casino premises licences. Each of those register entries lists the same registered office: Rank Group, Saint-Cloud Way, Maidenhead SL6 8BN.
The record is not spotless. In its July 2026 update Rank set aside a £5 million provision for a proposed settlement with the Gambling Commission over historical compliance failings at Grosvenor, which is worth weighing before treating any large operator as beyond scrutiny.
Where the games come from
Rank builds none of its own games. Its online brands run on a platform supplied by Bede Gaming, which the group adopted to speed up integrating outside content, and the game libraries are licensed in from studios most players will recognise. Live dealer tables, including Grosvenor-branded roulette and blackjack, are produced by Evolution. Playtech supplies the Age of the Gods progressive jackpots and the till system behind Grosvenor’s retail sportsbook, and the slot shelves include titles from NetEnt, among others. Rank’s job is the licence, the account, the payments and the venues; the games come in from its suppliers.

The group has been growing again after a hard stretch around the pandemic, when its casinos were shut for long periods. For the year to 30 June 2025 it reported like-for-like net gaming revenue up 11 per cent to £795.3 million and underlying operating profit up 38 per cent to £63.7 million. Its July 2026 trading update went further, with full-year group revenue of £834.1 million, up 6 per cent, and underlying operating profit expected to land at least at £76 million, ahead of the £68.2 million analysts had pencilled in. Management points to the loosening of Britain’s casino machine rules, which lets Grosvenor add hundreds of gaming machines to its floors, as a driver for the year ahead.
