NextGen Gaming

This Australia-based company has been at the forefront of the online gaming software development industry ever since it was founded some two decades ago. Formed in Sydney, New South Wales in 1999, it remains headquartered there to this day, retaining its fresh, Aussie outlook on life.

It has done well to preserve these antipodean roots, given that corporate politics have played a major part in its relatively short life. The company was merged with its rival NYX Gaming Group in 2011, although in effect it was more like a takeover. The NextGen brand was retained, but NYX was definitely the senior partner, with its own executives soon acquiring positions of influence in the NextGen management structure.

More recently, another round of corporate shenanigans saw the biter being bit. NYX Gaming was acquired by the American giant Scientific Games late in 2017. This means that today, both NYX Gaming Group and NextGen Gaming are wholly owned by the Las Vegas-based Scientific Games, and are operated as part of the parent company’s digital division, SG Digital.

Despite the corporate merry-go-round, NextGen Gaming has managed to retain its own identity, no doubt aided by its location far away from any American or European influences. It continues to operate effectively as an independent brand, using the resources of its various parent companies to continue what it does best: designing some excellent games, especially slots.

In fact, NextGen Gaming are responsible for some iconic titles – games that would fit snugly on the roster of the acclaimed masters of the industry, NetEnt. Perhaps the most revered of these are the Foxin’ titles. Foxin’ Wins and the equally successful sequel Foxin’ Wins Again are two of the most popular games around. They have now been joined by the yuletide edition Foxin’ Wins: A Very Foxin’ Christmas. But these are just the start of what is a very impressive portfolio of games.

Other famous titles in the NextGen Gaming canon include evergreen titles like 1 Can 2 Can, Double Play Super Bet, Gorilla Go Wild, Irish Eyes and Merlin’s Magic. NetEnt may be the first name on the list of software must-haves for casino operators, but it must be true to say that NextGen gaming will not be far behind.

It is not just the number of popular favourite games the company has developed that makes NextGen Gaming titles an essential inclusion on any self-respecting casino’s offering. It is the great variety t offers too. There are several niche games which are essential inclusions for many operators. These include the truly beautiful and enchanting Great Wild Elk, which is an idea that Elk Studios should surely have thought of first.

Other quirky favourites include Andre the Giant, Pizza Prize and perhaps the greatest punning title ever, Tootin’ Car Man. The company is also famous for its excellent Superhero titles. These include Batman, Green Lantern, Superman and Fairies Forest. OK, maybe not that last one.

NextGen Gaming’s software designers remain hard at work, as more exciting titles are being released all the time. NetEnt may well be the king of gaming software, but they need to be on their toes. NextGen Gaming are worthy competitors who are after their crown.
